Impressions of a Year
A collaboration between a poetry experiment and a photography one, Impressions of a Year is just that: an impressionist view of what it is to experience a year, both a panorama, and a macro shot. Created in collaboration with my good friend and talented writer, Anna Allen, we sought to combine our impressions of what it felt like to experience each month, and how they shape how you view the year as a whole.

Transience
Transience explores the extent to which identity is defined through external forces and how these forces might be represented in art that aims to be a self-expression of identity.

Visual sound
My project is a small, web-based, audial & graphical experience with minor user input (e.g button pressing). The project was developed over a three month period. I started abstractly with the creation of various shapes with different colors, and let the project guide itself from there. The static shapes I created radiated a sense of movement, so I made animations for each based off the implied direction their form gave. With their new found life, the shapes seemed to then call for sound, so I added audial components that represented their motion and appearance. The experience is meant to be meditative, mesmerizing and unique to each user. The order in which the sounds begin is controlled by the user, and the variation of sound/animation lengths creates a different experience each time. In its current state, the site plays best in Chrome. View website

Wachusett Mountain
My design tells a visual story of a hike up Wachusett Mountain. To create it, I went hiking and took photos along the way, capturing the hike from different perspectives and viewpoints. I made the overall design move from the bottom left to top right, in sort of a stair-like way, to resemble an uphill hike. I edited the photos to emphasize color, contrast, lighting, and perspective. Because everyone’s hiking experience is unique, and because everyone sees and pays attention to different elements of the mountain, I intend for everyone to see and interpret the design in their own unique ways.

Animated Initials
In my animation, I wanted the movement of the letter transformation to echo the style of the font by making a clean and mechanical motion. I created fluid, organic movements using the geometric shapes of the letter components. I used symmetry in the animation between the upper and lower halves of the letters to create a more natural operation. The curl in the J uncurls and then re-curls to form the lower bubble of the B. The upper bar in the J slides and then curls to form the upper bubble of the B. These motions are mechanical and organic like the gesture of arms or limbs in a body.

Nature’s Gradient
Inspired to slow down and see More, Nature’s Gradient is a slow project. An exploratory one. To pick a familiar location that has been dulled down by familiarity, and see it with new eyes. For my location, I chose a waterfall near my house that I have been going to since I was a child. It was the cusp of Spring; that in-between time where the weather is having an identity crisis every other day. The site takes you through three days in this location, as we journey through the transitions that the weather has on the world around it. It is designed to be simple and understated to allow the focus to be on the content; to provide an immersive experience. View website
